The Department of Archaeology, Classics and Egyptology is seeking to appoint an individual to a permanent post in Egyptology and Classics / Ancient History, which are two of the four subject areas for teaching within the Department (the other two are Archaeology and Evolutionary Anthropology).
In research, you are likely to be a specialist in aspects of the history and culture of Egypt from c. 664 BC to c. AD 600. The successful candidate will be an active researcher, will have a demonstrable track record in publishing in their field, plans for significant future research, the ability and ambition to make applications for substantial research grant funding (which could be interdisciplinary), both as a single researcher and in collaboration with other members of the Department and beyond.
There is an expectation that the candidate will take on appropriate PhD supervision.
The individual appointed will be expected to contribute equally to teaching within both subject areas. You will be expected to participate in a range of history / culture and language teaching (Demotic Egyptian and Ancient Greek are required) at all levels, including undergraduate and MA dissertations (as well as PhD supervision). The appointee will be expected to participate in ongoing curriculum development.
It is expected that the successful candidate will contribute to and develop further the Graeco-Roman pathway of teaching in Egyptian history, culture, and language, and that they will contribute to other undergraduate teaching as required in Classics / Ancient History and Egyptology, including languages (Demotic and other phases of Ancient Egyptian language and Ancient Greek).
