The department of Archaeology is seeking a full time Lecturer in the field of Roman Archaeology and welcomes candidates who also have other specialisms which will align with our research strengths<https://www.york.ac.uk/archaeology/research/> such as material culture studies, funerary studies, or fieldwork. We are looking for someone who works primarily internationally, but also will take an interest in Roman York and Yorkshire in order to forge links with local partners and develop student projects.

We are based in both the King's Manor in the heart of the historic city of York and at Heslington West campus. Our vibrant community consists of over 90 staff and over 600 students, with growing international representation. We carry out international, impact-oriented and interdisciplinary teaching, and research of the highest quality through our strong network of partnerships. Role

We are seeking a passionate, highly motivated, and well qualified applicant. The main responsibilities include undertaking high quality and impactful research, developing and delivering high quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and undertaking pastoral and administrative responsibilities effectively.

You will produce high quality research publications and develop grant applications. You will be responsible for the design and delivery of modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Roman Archaeology and in a couple of years will take over the Directorship of the postgraduate Roman Archaeology programme. You will also provide other teaching across the undergraduate programmes, depending on your other areas of interest and skill set. You will be collegiate and take on administrative roles within the department.

Skills, Experience & Qualification needed

  *   PhD in Roman Archaeology or equivalent experience
  *   Specialist knowledge in Roman Archaeology
  *   Ability to develop research objectives, projects and proposals
  *   Ability to design teaching material and deliver either across a range of modules or within a subject area
  *   Experience of taking responsibility for teaching and learning at undergraduate and ideally postgraduate level
  *   Proven ability to contribute to high quality research which is evidenced by publications
  *   Collaborative ethos
