University of Oxford - Lincoln College

Full Time / Fixed-Term
£37,467 p.a. in year 1 rising by annual increments to £42,149 in year 5

Lincoln College invites applications for a five-year, non-renewable, Darby Fellowship in Ancient History with effect from 1 September 2022, or as soon as possible thereafter, until 31 August 2027. This post is intended to provide a career development opportunity for a scholar in the early stages of an academic career. Applicants should have recently obtained or to be about to obtain a doctorate in some aspect of the history of Greek or Roman antiquity, and should have some experience of teaching Ancient History at university level. Consideration will be given to teaching quality and to research achievement and potential.

Under the College Statutes, elections to Fellowships are for a probationary year in the first instance. Thereafter, the appointment will be tenable for a further four years and will not be renewable.

The Darby Fellowship is a full-time post where the postholder will be required to provide, for Lincoln College, tutorial teaching in Ancient History for six contact hours per week averaged across the three 8-week terms of the academic year, and to provide, for the Faculty of Classics, twelve hours of teaching per year, averaged over the period of the Fellowship. The postholder will also be a member of the Governing Body of, and a Trustee of, the College.

Salary and allowances: £37,467 p.a. in year 1 rising by annual increments to £42,149 in year 5; full Common Room rights, hospitality credit, access to the College Research and Equipment Funds and membership of the USS pension scheme.
