# 5776
Full Time, Permanent
£40,927 to £43,434 Grade 8 per annum pro rata due to funding restrictions
About the role
We are seeking to strengthen our team by recruiting an individual with excellent research and teaching potential in the field of Roman History. We define this as a subject specialism relating to the text and culture of the Roman world in the Republican and Imperial periods. The School has a thriving distance learning community and plans on further development in this space with increased focus on online delivery. A successful candidate would be expected to engage in development of campus based and distance learning taught content as we explore new teaching spaces in HE and enhance our current distance learning provision.
Ancient History at Leicester is known for both world-leading research and innovative pedagogy, as well as for its deep-seated commitment to interdisciplinarity and diversity. We have particular strengths in the study of the Hellenistic world (Masséglia, Shipley, Stewart), late antiquity (Christie, Merrills), and the Roman provinces (Haselgrove, James, Mattingly, Scott, Taylor); as well as broader expertise covering the ancient Near East (Wisnom), and Roman Italy (Allison, Lennon). We are also a leader in school and community-based engagement through our partnerships with the charity Classics for All and local heritage organisations. We are now seeking to expand our core staff base by recruiting an outstanding Ancient Historian, with interests and specialisms that will expand our current offering.

About you
You will be expected to be able to demonstrate a record of agenda-setting research and innovative teaching appropriate to your career stage, and to offer a compelling vision of your contribution to the future development of this ambitious and forward-looking department. The School particularly values team players and the successful candidates must be willing to play a full and effective part in the smooth running of the School, and to contribute to the development of future academic and research strategy.
