Assistant Professor in Ancient Language Pedagogy

Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream (Contractually Limited Term Appointment) in Ancient Language Pedagogy, University of Toronto

The Department of Classics in the Faculty of Arts and Science at the University of Toronto (St. George Campus, Downtown Toronto) invites applications for a five-year contractually limited term appointment (CLTA) in the area of Ancient Language Pedagogy. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream beginning  July 1, 2023, or shortly thereafter, and ending June 30, 2028.

Applicants must have earned a PhD degree in Classics or a related area by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of pedagogical innovation and excellence in teaching. We seek candidates whose teaching interests complement and enhance our existing departmental strengths<https://www.classics.utoronto.ca>. The successful applicant will be expected to teach and coordinate teaching in the Department's thriving undergraduate Greek and Latin programs; to provide leadership in pedagogical innovation and curricular renewal; and to train and mentor graduate student course instructors.

Candidates must present clear evidence of pedagogical innovation and teaching excellence and have the demonstrated capacity to adeptly teach introductory and/or intermediate courses in Ancient Greek and/or Latin, as well as courses in classical civilization (in translation) at the undergraduate level. The successful candidate will also have excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills as demonstrated in their application materials.

Applicants must submit a cover letter; a current curriculum vitae; and a complete teaching dossier to include a statement of teaching philosophy, sample syllabi and course materials, and teaching evaluations or evidence of superior performance in other teaching-related activities.
