As part of an ongoing programme of investment and development, the School of History, Archaeology and Religion is pleased to offer an exciting new opportunity to join our team as a Lecturer in Hellenistic History. The role is to deliver high-quality, research-led teaching (and activities related to teaching), developing, delivering and evaluating undergraduate and postgraduate programmes of study, and acting as a personal tutor to students. You will engage with and contribute to research in your field through participation in relevant events and activities, and carry out academic administrative duties within the School as required. You will also supervise and support postgraduate research students. You will pursue excellence in research, teaching and enterprise and inspire others to do the same. You will be provided with office space as well as access to funding for conferences and travel to pursue developments in research activity.
We are seeking candidates who complement and enhance our current teaching and research programme and existing areas of expertise. You will contribute to the continued development of the School's teaching in Ancient History, with a focus on Hellenistic history. You will also be expected to contribute to jointly-taught core modules at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and to supervise projects and dissertations. Additionally, you may be involved in providing interdisciplinary modules within the School. While developing your own research portfolio, you will be expected to build postgraduate research within your areas of expertise.
You should have a PhD (or equivalent) and teaching experience at undergraduate and postgraduate level, in Ancient History or related subjects. Applicants should also have excellent communication and IT skills, to include the ability to present complex and specialist concepts clearly to others, using high-level skills and a range of media.
You will join a School that is internationally recognised for its research and teaching. The School of History, Archaeology and Religion is committed to promoting equality, diversity and inclusion, and was recently awarded an Athena SWAN bronze award.
This is a full-time post (35 hours per week). The post is available immediately and is open-ended.
Career Pathway: Teaching & Research.
