The role
The Bristol Classics Hub is seeking to recruit a Senior Administrator/Co-ordinator on a part-time (two days per week) permanent basis.
The Bristol Classics Hub aims to widen access to Classics by offering a powerful and stable focus for regional development. Established in September 2016, the Hub supports the take-up of classical subjects in state schools where there is no current provision, and also works to strengthen and enrich the pre-existing provision of classical subjects in schools across the region. Through the Hub, teachers can access training in teaching Latin, Greek, and Classical Civilisation, as well as practical and strategic support with curriculum planning. Events for teachers and students in all key stages are held throughout the year.
The role holder would be required to co-ordinate the administration for the Bristol Classics Hub, which promotes the case for Classics in regional primary and secondary schools, especially in areas of socio-economic disadvantage. The role will provide administrative support for the Hub as required by the Hub's Director and in collaboration with other academic colleagues and the Hub's main funder Classics for All.
The role holder will be line managed by the Hub Director, and will support him/her in the overall co-ordination of the Hub.
What will you be doing?
In particular, this role will have specific responsibility for facilitating the general running of the Hub through organisational and administrative tasks, promptly answering queries via email and telephone, attending relevant meetings, updating the Hub webpages, and the maintenance of data on schools, pupil numbers and training; building links between regional schools, Widening Participation, Classics for All, and other stakeholders through enrichment activity, and offering ongoing opportunities for schools and pupils to share ideas and approaches to best practice; identifying and addressing schools' training and enrichment needs with regard to the introduction of and support for Classical subjects; working with the Director and Classics for All to produce an annual work plan with key purposes, activities and proposed outcomes; planning, providing, and advertising activities, events, and conferences as required by that work plan; collating information and data from events and schools for an annual report on activities against agreed targets for submission to Classics for All; providing individual advice/support to contacts, and where contacts require more in-depth academic support or pastoral care, referring them on to an appropriate person; and maintaining academic standards and working in accordance with University policies, e.g. regarding equality of opportunity, health and safety, and safeguarding.
