Assistant Professor in Classical Languages and Literature, commencing on 1 September 2024. Permanent position, subject to satisfactory completion of probation (5 years with possibility of negotiation; leading to promotion to Associate Professor level).

About You
The Department of Classics and Ancient History at the University of Warwick is seeking to appoint an individual to a permanent post (subject to satisfactory completion of probation) in Classical Languages and Literature.
In research, you will have expertise in an area or areas within the fields of ancient Greek and/or Latin literature. The successful candidate will be an active researcher with a proven track record in publishing in their field. You will have clear plans for significant future research, and the potential and ambition to make applications for substantial research-grant funding. You will also be committed to maximizing the impact of your research on wider audiences outside of academia. Your research interests may lie anywhere in the field of classical literature, on the basis of a commitment to the theoretically progressive and creative development of Classics within the broader context of the humanities. Equally, your research should complement the research-strengths of the department as a whole.
In teaching, you will be expected to teach modules on classical language, with the dexterity to offer both Greek and Latin language from beginners’ to advanced levels, within the department’s structure of and rationale for language-learning. You will have the opportunity to design your own undergraduate-level thematic modules in classical literature (broadly conceived, including reception of classical texts; available to students both with and without ancient language), and to contribute to our taught master’s programme in Ancient Literature and Thought. We welcome applications from candidates who can further diversify our syllabus and cover areas of ancient literature that we do not currently offer. You will be expected to supervise dissertations at undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral level.
You will undertake administrative roles within the Department as required, as well as pastoral duties.
