Associate Lecturer in Classical Studies, Ancient Greek, and Latin.
The Centre for Classical Studies at the Australian National University seeks to appoint an Associate Lecturer to conduct research in ancient monarchy and contribute to teaching in Classical Studies, Ancient Greek, and Latin.
The appointee will spend 50% of their time engaged in research for the Australian Research Council Future Fellowship project, 'Why Monarchy Endures. Answers from the Ancient Mediterranean World', as well as its wider intellectual and knowledge translation activities. The project is particularly seeking a scholar with expertise in the politics and government of the eastern Mediterranean world (c. 1200 BCE-600 CE) in regions such as Greece, Anatolia, Egypt, and/or Persia.
The other 50% of the appointee's time will be devoted to education and service in the Centre for Classical Studies. They will possess the necessary skills, flexibility, and collegiality to teach broadly across all three majors: Ancient Greek, Latin, and Classical Studies (history, culture, and literature in English translation).
This is a full-time position, fixed-term for 4 years at Academic Level A. The appointee will be expected to take up the position on June 23, 2025 or shortly after. The position is based in Canberra.
