Full Time, Fixed Term

The School of Culture and Society, Department of History and Classical Studies invites applications for a teaching assistant professorship or a teaching associate professorship in classical philology. The position is affiliated with the Classical Studies programme and involves teaching ancient Greek and Latin language and literature.

The teaching assistant- or associate professorship is a 4-year full-time position. The appointment begins on 1 January 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The position
We are seeking an innovative and dedicated candidate with a strong interest in the full disciplinary breadth of Classical Studies, and with experience working in an interdisciplinary academic environment.

The position requires:

  *   A keen interest in teaching Greek and Roman antiquity in collaboration with colleagues in archaeology
  *   The ability to co-teach courses with and for students from diverse Study Regulations (Classical Philology, Classical Studies and Latin or Greek as minor subject

The successful applicant will be obliged to complete a course in university teaching designed for teaching assistant professors if not already obtained.

Qualifications
Employment as a teaching assistant- or associate professor requires an MA or equivalent qualification in Classical Philology, Ancient Greek, and Latin.

The following competencies are required:

  *   Documented teaching qualifications in Ancient Greek and Latin language and grammar
  *   Ability to teach Greek and Latin literature in the original languages
  *   Experience in teaching original Greek and Latin texts at all levels is considered an asset
  *   Experience in supervising students at both the BA and MA levels is an advantage
  *   If applying for the position at associate professor level, documentation of pedagogical training is required.
Applicants are expected to participate actively in the department's academic environment.

Knowledge of Danish is a clear priority for the Department and an important consideration in the selection process. The successful applicant must be able to teach in Danish (incl. translation between Danish and Greek / Latin) within a period agreed upon between the applicant and the Department.

The applicant must submit a teaching portfolio including a list of courses taught, representative or sample course outlines, and representative student evaluations. The applicant can also submit a list of publications.
