Assistent Professor in ancient Greek and Latin language and literature
The Department of Classics at the University of Cincinnati invites applications for a tenure track position in ancient Greek and Latin language and literature at the level of Assistant Professor, to begin August 15, 2026. The field of research specialization in Greek or Latin should complement those of our current faculty.
The Department of Classics offers a B.A. program in Classics, with concentrations in Classical Languages and Classical Cultures, and M.A. and Ph.D. programs in Greek and Latin Language and Literature, Ancient History, Bronze Age Archaeology, and Classical Archaeology. The faculty thrive in an interdisciplinary environment that educates students in philology, ancient history, and archaeology. The department is housed together with the Burnam Classics Library, one of the largest and best collections of resources in Classics in the world, including a collection of Byzantine and Modern Greek resources. Essential Functions
* Conduct research and publish in a field of ancient Greek or Latin literature.
* Teach ancient Greek and Latin languages at both undergraduate and graduate levels as well as undergraduate courses based on translations of Greek and Latin literature, such as but not limited to: graduate seminar in Greek, undergraduate reading course in Latin, Great Books of Ancient Greece.
* Supervise graduate and undergraduate students on research projects, including Ph.D. dissertations.
* Write and grade graduate examinations.
* Serve on departmental business committees.
Required Education
Prior to the effective date of appointment, all of the following are required:
A Ph.D. in Classics or a related field.
Required Experience
Demonstrated scholarly research activity in ancient Greek or Latin literature through a writing sample of 7,000 to 10,000 words.
