The ERC-funded project „Polytheism and Botany. An Experimental Approach to the Environmental Dimensions of Ancient Greek Religion“ (ERC POLYBOTA) is now accepting applications for a doctoral position (three years) that will start on 1 September or 1 October 2026.

The PhD student will be enrolled in the EPHE – PSL<https://www.ephe.psl.eu/recherche-innovation/ecole-doctorale-ed-472/organisation-de-lecole-doctorale> Doctoral School. They will be supervised by Prof. Vinciane Pirenne-Delforge<https://www.college-de-france.fr/en/chair/vinciane-pirenne-delforge-religion-history-and-society-in-the-ancient-greek-world-statutory-chair> (Collège de France) and co-supervised by Dr Alessandro Buccheri<https://www.anhima.fr/le-centre/les-membres/chercheurs-enseignants-chercheurs-permanents/alessandro-buccheri>  (EPHE – PSL, Principal Investigator of POLYBOTA).

The PhD student will write a thesis focused on the botanical names and epithets of the Greek gods. Based on their area of expertise, the candidate will more precisely define a corpus, an approach, and research questions, in coordination with their supervisors and in alignment with the research strands of the POLYBOTA project.
