Lecturer in Classical Studies
Full-time (37.5 hours per week, 1.0 FTE), permanent
About the Role
Applications are invited for an ongoing lectureship in Classical Studies based at Massey University’s Manawatū campus in Palmerston North, where courses contribute to the Bachelor of Arts programme.
In this position, you will:
* Teach and administer undergraduate courses in Classical Studies, including areas such as mythology, Greek religion, and Greek and Roman art
* Contribute to the design, development, and delivery of courses at all levels, including
opportunities to develop new offerings within the programme
* Prepare and deliver course materials across both online and face-to-face learning environments, with a strong emphasis on distance delivery
* Assess student work, including written and oral assignments and examinations
* Support and engage both distance and on-campus (internal) students, with a primary focus on a predominantly distance learning cohort.
* Undertake an active and impactful research programme, publish scholarly work, and
participate in academic conferences and research activities
* Supervise postgraduate research students and contribute to student success and completion outcomes
* Contribute to the collegial development and ongoing success of the Classical Studies Programme and the wider School
* Participate in service activities, including engagement with the community and contribution to School and University committees
About You
You are a motivated and collaborative academic with a passion for Classical Studies and a commitment to high-quality teaching and research. You will bring:
* A PhD in Classical Studies (or near completion)
* Demonstrated teaching experience in a tertiary environment, with awareness of contemporary teaching methodologies
* Experience or familiarity with online and distance teaching approaches
* A developing or established research profile, including publications in Classical Studies
* Strong communication skills and the ability to engage effectively with students
* A collaborative approach and willingness to contribute to programme development
* Energy, initiative, and a commitment to promoting the study of Classics
* Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, Te Tiriti o Waitangi, with the ability to integrate its principles into teaching, research, and service, including engaging respectfully with mātauranga Māori and contributing to an inclusive academic environment.

Salary and Benefits
Salary range: $86,113 – $109,901 per annum (depending on experience)
