The Faculty of Archaeology at the University of Warsaw announces the opening of a

Project Description NetworksOfTheDead harnesses the rich mortuary record of
Prepalatial and Protopalatial Crete (3100-1700 BC) to reconstruct
social networks before, during, and after the construction of the First
Minoan Palaces. The project leverages the potential of Social
Network Analysis to infer interactions among burial communities
based on data drawn from existing literature, hands-on reference
collections, and ongoing archaeological projects. Three
complementary types of evidence are investigated: remains of
mortuary activity, material culture (seals, pottery, petrographic data),
and burial site locations. By integrating these three types of evidence,
NetworksOfTheDead aims to reconstruct multi-layered networks of
intercommunity interaction and explore how collective identities
were negotiated across multiple scales, so as to shed light on the
dynamics that drove social change.
Key responsibilities
include

• Contribution to bibliographic review, the development of the
  project website, the conceptualisation of the project database, and
  the data management plan.
• Recording of pottery variables in the project’s database.
• Definition of pottery classes relevant for identifying inter-
  community interaction and reconstruction of pottery-based material
  culture networks.
• Participation in the four-week annual study campaigns of the
  project “Minoan funerary practices at Malia” (Crete, Greece; French
  School at Athens; PI S. Dederix).
• Contribution to the integration, comparison, and interpretation of
  networks reconstructed from different types of archaeological
  evidence.
• Communication and dissemination of results through conference
  presentations and publications.
• Contribution to the project’s final monograph.
  Profile of
  candidates/requirements
  The competition is open to applicants who meet the conditions
  specified in the regulations on the allocation of resources for the
  implementation of tasks financed by the National Science Centre
  under the SONATA BIS-15 grant.
• MA in archaeology (or a related discipline). The MA degree
  should be obtained prior to the start of employment on the project.
• Confirmed status as a PhD student (no later than the start date of
  employment on the project). The successful candidate is expected to
  be already enrolled in, or to enrol in, the Doctoral School of the
  University of Warsaw.
• Excellent academic record.
• Experience in pottery studies (ideally in Prepalatial and/or

Anschubfinanzierung für Postdocs 2026

Wer wir sind:
Das KU Forschungskolleg „Dialogkulturen. Wissenschaftliche Reflexionsräume für Kultur-und
Sozialwissenschaften“ wurde als Forschungsplattform an der Katholischen Universität Eichstätt-
Ingolstadt eingerichtet, um interdisziplinäre Forschung in den Kultur-, Sozial- und
Geisteswissenschaften zu fördern. Das Zentrum unterstützt sowohl Postdoc-Projekte als auch
Forschungsvorhaben erfahrener und etablierter Wissenschaftler:innen. Es hat das Ziel, den
wissenschaftlichen Austausch und die kritische Debatte über disziplinäre Grenzen und
akademische Karrierestufen hinweg zu ermöglichen und zu stärken.
Die Forschungsprojekte des FK orientieren sich an seinem übergreifenden Schwerpunkt
„Dialogkulturen“, verstanden als soziokulturelles Phänomen, dynamische Praxis und
transformativer Prozess kulturellen Austauschs unter unterschiedlichen konflikthaften
kommunikativen Bedingungen und Szenarien. Aktuelle Forschungsschwerpunkte umfassen
Kulturen der Antike, (De-)Kolonialisierung, Grenzen/Räume, Künste und Literaturen in
gesellschaftlichen Kontexten sowie die Interrelationen von Gattungen und Medien. Darüber
hinaus steht das Zentrum allen Forschungsfragen und theoretischen Ansätzen offen, die sich in
sein übergeordnetes Rahmenkonzept einfügen.
Wen wir suchen:
Die Anschubfinanzierung richtet sich an Postdoktorand:innen in einer frühen Karrierephase, die
aktuell ein größeres Drittmittelprojekt vorbereiten und dieses im Rahmen der Förderphase weiter
ausarbeiten.

• Bewerbungen sind aus allen Bereichen der Kultur-, Sozial- und Geisteswissenschaften
  willkommen – unabhängig von Geschlecht, Alter oder institutioneller Zugehörigkeit.

  o ein innovatives Forschungsprojekt verfolgen, das sich in die thematische Agenda
  des Forschungskollegs „Dialogkulturen“ einfügt;
  o aktiv an der Entwicklung eines Drittmittelantrags arbeiten (Einreichung bei einem
  zur jeweiligen Qualifikationsstufe passenden Förderformat, z. B. bei der
  Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft, der Fritz Thyssen Stiftung, der Volkswagen
  Stiftung, im Rahmen von EU-Programmen u. a.);
  o beabsichtigen, den Antrag während der Förderphase (Oktober–Dezember 2026)
  zur Einreichungsreife zu bringen;
  o eine erkennbare wissenschaftliche Profilbildung im Postdoc-Stadium vorweisen
  können;
  o Bereitschaft zur interdisziplinären Zusammenarbeit sowie zur Teilnahme an den
  Aktivitäten des Forschungskollegs mitbringen.
• Voraussetzung ist, dass die Geförderten für die Dauer der Förderung eine institutionelle
  Anbindung an die Katholische Universität Eichstätt-Ingolstadt erhalten und der
  erarbeitete Drittmittelantrag über die KU eingereicht wird.
  Was wir bieten:
• Eine Anschubfinanzierung in Höhe von 1.500 EUR monatlich für die Dauer von drei
  Monaten (Oktober–Dezember 2026);
• eine konzentrierte Arbeitsphase zur finalen Ausarbeitung und Einreichung eines
  Drittmittelantrags;
• vollständige Einbindung in das Forschungskolleg „Dialogkulturen“ mit Zugang zu

Die Fellowships ermöglichen jungen ebenso wie etablierten Wissenschaftler/innen einen voll finanzierten Studien- und Forschungsaufenthalt von bis zu 3 Monaten (mindestens 1 Monat) am Departement Altertumswissenschaften der Universität Basel. Die Fellows verfolgen ein Forschungsprojekt auf dem Gebiet der lateinischen Literatur und profitieren von den ausgezeichneten Ressourcen der Universitätsbibliothek und der Bibliothek Altertumswissenschaften, einer der weltweit best ausgestatteten Forschungsbibliotheken auf dem Gebiet der antiken Kulturen des Mittelmeerraums resp. der griechisch-römischen Literaturen.
Die Fellows geben im Rahmen eines öffentlichen Vortrags Einblick in ihr Forschungsvorhaben; sie sind eingeladen (aber nicht verpflichtet), am Forschungskolloquium und weiteren Veranstaltungen des Fachbereichs Latinistik teilzunehmen. Das eigentliche Anliegen des Programmes ist es aber, dass die Fellows sich ausschliesslich auf ihre Forschungsarbeit konzentrieren können.

Ausstattung
Die Fellows verbringen die Dauer ihres Fellowships in Basel; ihnen wird dabei ein geeigneter Arbeitsplatz am Departement Altertumswissenschaften ebenso wie Zugang zur Bibliothek Altertumswissenschaften und ihren Ressourcen zur Verfügung gestellt. Das Programm übernimmt die Kosten für einen geeigneten Wohnraum in Universitätsnähe, i.d.R. im Gästehaus der Universität, sowie Reisekosten bis zu CHF 1000.-; darüber hinaus wird ein Stipendium von CHF 1500.-/Monat als Beitrag an die allgemeinen Lebenskosten ausbezahlt.

Zeitraum
Die aktuell ausgeschriebenen Fellowships haben eine Laufzeit von bis zu drei Monaten (mindestens aber einem Monat) und fallen in das Frühjahrsemester 2027.
Das Datum, zu dem das Fellowship angetreten wird, kann flexibel gestaltet werden, solange der Forschungsaufenthalt sich während mindestens 2 Wochen mit der Vorlesungszeit der Universität Basel überschneidet (22.02.2027-04.06.2027).

Australian Catholic University (ACU) is offering a full-time PhD scholarship package to undertake research at the Institute for Religion and Critical Inquiry, Melbourne on translation in Late Antiquity.

The successful applicant will work on an Australian Research Council (ARC) Discovery Project ‚Translation and Transformation in Late Antiquity‘ to investigate how translation in Late Antiquity evolved while communicating and shaping new knowledge, and analyse translation across a diverse range of political, social, religious, linguistic cultural groups in Late Antiquity.


The research will either involve a case study or studies, drawn from either Biblical translations or translations of theological, philosophical, historical, and literary knowledge from the fourth to the sixth centuries CE.


The PhD candidate will be an integral member of the project, working with the research team, led by Assoc. Prof. Michael Hanaghan, and including Assoc. Prof. Stephen Carlson, Prof. Bronwen Neil (Macquarie University) and Prof. Andy Cain (UC Boulder).


Opportunities for mentoring and collaborative publishing will be facilitated.

Call for Applications: Visiting Fellows „CECIL“ Univ. of Pisa, 2026/2027

The Excellence Project 2023-2027 CECIL of the Department of Philology, Literature, and Linguistics at the University of Pisa aims to promote excellence in research and high-quality teaching in the field of countering language impoverishment, also with a view to expanding the international network of collaborations with scholars from European and non-European countries.

To this end, the Department announces a selection based on qualifications and research project for the academic year 2026-2027 aimed at identifying three scholars from foreign universities who intend to carry out independent and original research on topics related to the CECIL excellence project “Center of Excellence for Countering Language Impoverishment”.

The three selected figures will be appointed at the Department as Visiting Fellows, following the guidelines of the Visiting Fellow Program of the University of Pisa. The fellowships, each lasting 30 days, are intended for:

About us
The Department of Greek and Latin at UCL is looking to appoint a postdoctoral research fellow in ancient Greek literature for a three-year term commencing from 1st September 2026.  The appointment is for a part-time post at 0.8 FTE.

About the role
This Postdoctoral Research Fellowship is funded by the A. G. Leventis Foundation, and its aim is to provide a career development opportunity for someone who is at a relatively early stage of their academic career. Therefore, applicants must not yet have held a full-time permanent academic post in a university or comparable institution or have had a previous long-term research fellowship. Applicants must have completed their doctorate, but they should not have had their doctoral viva more than five years from the application closing date (except in cases of career breaks). The successful candidate will have a research interest in an area of ancient Greek literature and / or culture, which may include its reception in Latin literature or in the literature and culture of later periods. The postholder will also be expected to contribute to departmental conferences in ancient Greek culture, to undertake cultural and outreach activities and to oversee the annual Greek Play performed by the Department’s students. There will be access to a limited amount of funding to facilitate research activities. The Fellow will contribute to the Department’s teaching (c. 60 contact hours = 3 one-term modules per academic year).

  *   To pursue high-quality original research on Greek literature and / or culture and / or its context
  *   Deliver c. three undergraduate modules per year (i.e. provide lectures, seminars and advisory services for students, liaise with Postgraduate Teaching Assistants where necessary and examine) and contribute to postgraduate teaching and supervision as required
  *   To organize conferences and workshops on aspects of Greek culture
  *   To organize and contribute to cultural and outreach activities
  *   To oversee the annual classical Play
In addition to the above the post-holder is expected to:

About you
You should have completed a PhD in a relevant area, have the ability or potential to carry out high-quality research and have experience in teaching Greek and Latin language and literature at undergraduate level. In addition to this, you should have excellent communication skills, be able to work well independently and collaboratively in a research community.
