The Salvesen Junior Fellowship
Salary:
£24,833 p.a.
The College invites applications for this post, which is tenable for a fixed period of three years from 1 October 2023 based in New College, Oxford. The person appointed will be expected to provide support to students as part of the College's welfare team, to act as a link between senior and junior members of the College, and to undertake their own independent and original academic research. The Fellowship is open to those who have already acquired a first degree, and a PhD/DPhil.
The Fellowship carries a stipend of £24,833 p.a. (subject to review). The appointment will be pensionable under the USS scheme, details of which can be found here: https://www.uss.co.uk
The Fellow will be expected to live in College and suitable accommodation is provided free of charge; the personal income tax position of this benefit is currently under review by HMRC but no decision has been made. Fellows are entitled to free lunch and dinner at the common table when this is available, a research and book allowance (£1,255 p.a.). The post comes with an entertainment budget of £1,595 p.a.

The Centre for Advanced Studies "Migration and Mobility in Late Antiquity and the Early Middle Ages" at the University of Tübingen, Germany, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), invites applications for resident fellowships starting in the year 2024. The fellowships are available for a duration between one and twelve months.
The Centre for Advanced Studies brings together scholars from a wide range of disciplines working on migration and mobility in Europe and the Mediterranean between 250 and 900 CE. The overall aim of the Centre is to explore new approaches to migration and mobility in this period and to set the scholarly debate in the field on a new footing. Fellowships are available for scholars who have completed their doctoral degree and established an independent research profile in any relevant discipline (Ancient and Medieval History, Byzantine Studies, Archeology, Classics). Applicants should be engaged in a research project related to the Centre's interests in migration and mobility in Europe and the Mediterranean between 250 and 900 CE. The Centre also welcomes applications from scholars working on migration and mobility in the contemporary world whose research has a strong focus on theoretical and methodological issues.
Fellows are required to reside in Tübingen, where they pursue their own research project while also participating in the colloquia held at the Centre as well as any workshops and conferences during their stay. They will receive a stipend covering accommodation, travel, and/or living expenses in accordance with their needs and the pertinent regulations of Tübingen University and the DFG.

Fondazione 1563 per l'Arte e la Cultura della Compagnia di San Paolo (hereinafter "Fondazione 1563") has since 2013 supported research and advanced training in the field of the humanities.
In a wider effort to pursue this goal, in 2020 Fondazione 1563 has launched the Turin Humanities Programme<https://www.fondazione1563.it/ricerca/en-turin-humanities-programme/>, a research initiative that allows junior scholars to work on interrelated research projects under the guidance of especially appointed Senior Fellows.
THP aims at promoting two-year research projects about relevant global history topics. Under THP in 2020 Fondazione 1563 launched a first call for application for research on the Enlightenmnent legacy: the rights of man in a global perspective, and in 2021 a second call for application for research on Political Thought and the Body: Europe and East Asia, ca. 1100-1650.

The Berlin Graduate School of Ancient Studies (BerGSAS) is offering 1 dissertation scholarship of either the “Ancient Objects and Visual Studies” (AOViS) or the “Landscape Archaeology and Architecture” (LAA) doctoral program (30 ECTS). We welcome applications from highly qualified graduates from the fields of Ancient Art History, Classical Archaeology, Prehistoric Archaeology, Near Eastern Archaeology, Ancient Oriental Studies, Egyptology, or Geosciences with a focus on Landscape Archaeology. Candidates must hold an outstanding Master's degree (M.A., MSt, or MSc) in one of the aforementioned subjects or be very close to completion. With this scholarship, doctoral studies are only possible at the Freie Universität Berlin.

The Berlin Graduate School of Ancient Studies (BerGSAS) is offering 4 Predoc-Scholarships at Freie Universität Berlin in the field of Classical Studies. Funding is available to doctoral researchers who have completed their Master's degree by the start of funding in April 2023 (the thesis must be evaluated and graded by January 31, 2023) and are planning to complete a doctorate at the Freie Universität Berlin, within BerGSAS.
The fund is available from 1 April 2023 onwards at the earliest for 6 months. An extension is not possible. The Predoc scholarship holders receive a scholarship of EUR 1,000 per month. At the beginning of the scholarship, admission to the doctoral programme and enrolment at the Freie Universität Berlin must be available. The purpose of the scholarship is to complete an exposé for a doctoral dissertation topic to be sent to potential scholarship providers within the 6-month funding period. It is expected that the dissertation will be pursued at the Freie Universität, within BerGSAS. The Predoc-Scholarship holders, who successfully apply for external doctoral funding, will receive a place at the BerGSAS and participate in the curriculum of our structured doctoral program.

The Department of History and Archaeology of the University of Cyprus invites applications for a
Fully-Funded, Four-year PhD Scholarship on the broad area of Greek Classical Reception in the Early Modern Period (15th-17th centuries).
Applications are welcome from the areas of Book History, History of Ideas, History of Scholarship, Reformation History.
The successful applicant with join the research project GrECI (Greek heritage in European Culture and Identity), funded by the European Research Council (HORIZON-WIDERA-2021ACCESS call, 101079379), for which the University of Cyprus is the Coordinator (Dr Natasha Constantinidou). The successful candidate will also benefit from the collaboration with the University of Oslo (Prof. Han Lames, UiO, Norway) and Université Franche-Comté (Prof. Marie Barral-Baron UFC, France).
The project team will meet regularly, both virtually and physically, and will be committed to the well-being and career development of all our members.
The Studentship provides students with Full Fees, Stipend, and a Research Allowance for the Four-year PhD programme.

The Center for Advanced Study brings together scholars from a wide range of disciplines
working on Romanization and Islamication in Late Antiquity with a focus but not exclusively on
the Iberian Peninsula and North Africa during the first millennium CE. The overall aim of the
Center is to explore new approaches to Romanization and Islamication in this period and to set
the scholarly debate in the field on a new footing. The fourth year theme is 'Architecture and
Materials of Prestige', i.e. it will explore the representation of political rule in material culture
and architecture of the Iberian Peninsula and North Africa. Material culture serves as a source
for understanding the identity of the Roman, Visigothic, and Islamic population.
Fellowships are available for scholars at all stages of their academic career who have
completed their doctoral degree and established an independent research profile. Applicants
should be engaged in a research project in any relevant discipline that is related to the Center's
interests in Romanization and Islamication in the period and area in question. The Center also
welcomes applications from scholars working on comparative empire and transcultural studies
in a broader historical (or contemporary) perspective whose research has a strong focus on
theoretical and methodological issues.
Fellows are required to reside in Hamburg, where they pursue their own research project while
also participating in the colloquia held at the Center. For the duration of their stay fellows
receive a remuneration covering accommodation, travel, and living expenses in accordance

The University of Edinburgh is advertising for 30 Chancellor's Fellowships, 10 of them in the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences. These are "5-year tenure track fellowships, designed to provide talented early career researchers with the support required to develop into a leading research-active academic at the University of Edinburgh."
Applications are welcome from researchers from any discipline represented in the College, working on any topic of research. There is, however, a particular emphasis (1) on researchers working across disciplines and able to lead interdisciplinarity initiatives, and (2) "applicants who can make a key contribution to interdisciplinary research and innovation in three College priority research themes (with potential for collaboration within the College and across the University's three Colleges): Health and wellbeing; digital and data; Sustainability and climate change." The Berlin Graduate School of Ancient Studies (https://www.berliner-antike-kolleg.org/en/bergsas/index.html) is offering two doctoral scholarships (Oct. 2023-Sept.2027) funded by the Graduate School Scholarship Program (GSSP) of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) to carry out a doctorate in Berlin (Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin / Freie Universität Berlin) in the program "Ancient Languages and Texts".
We welcome applications from highly qualified graduates from the fields of: Ancient History; History of Late Antiquity and Early Middle Ages; Ancient Near Eastern Languages; Greek and Latin Languages and Literatures (incl. Middle and modern Latin); Classics; Egyptology (incl. Coptology); Iranian Studies; Jewish Studies; Protestant Theology (incl. FUNDING: The scholarship is available from October 2023 for four years (subject to an annual progress review). In accordance with DAAD guidelines, doctoral scholarship holders receive a stipend of 1,200 Euros per month, a travel allowance, a combined health, accident and liability insurance policy, allowances for study and research (rent and family allowances, if applicable), and financial support for a pre-sessional German language course. Additionally, provided are material resources i.e. a supervision allowance of 1,000 Euros per year.
OBJECTIVES: The doctoral program "Ancient Languages and Texts" (ALT) focuses on the written heritage of ancient cultures which includes literary works as well as documentary texts like inscriptions and papyri. Also, research is carried out into phenomena of mediality such as the interaction between texts and pictorial representations. In this line of inquiry, traditional philological methods are being combined with historical and cultural issues. In addition to that, particular emphasis is placed on theories and approaches of modern literary studies and linguistics. Topics and methods in the digital humanities and computer philology also belong to the program ALT. Thus, the program is characterized by a plurality of methods and a wide understanding of the concept of 'a text'.
Candidates are expected to have sufficient command of the relevant ancient languages for their dissertation project.
Candidates admitted to doctoral studies are expected to participate in Digital Humanities training offered as part of BerGSAS.

They should be no more than 1,000 words, outlining the work candidates would submit in support of their application and the research they propose to pursue if elected. The statement may be read by people outside the candidate's discipline and should therefore be intelligible to scholars in other fields of learning.
Candidates must provide details for two referees who have agreed to submit a reference through this system. At least one of the referees should be familiar with the writings to be submitted. One referee should normally be your supervisor.
