Im Palazzo Ducalo in Mantua findet aktuell eine Ausstellung statt. "Lungo il fiume. L'abitato etrusco del Forcello" ("Along the River. The Etruscan Settlement of Forcello", Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Mantova, 25/05/2024-06/01/2025), by M. Hirose, L. Lamanna and M. Rapi, in partnership with Soprintendenza Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio per le province di Cremona, Mantova e Lodi and Università degli Studi di Milano.
The location was not selected by chance: via river navigation along the Po and then the Mincio, goods originating from the whole Mediterranean area, reached the settlement, dispatched from the Adriatic ports of Adria and Spina. Forcello, therefore, had a strong commercial vocation from the beginning, and grew rapidly, prospering thanks to trade, and in its role as an Etruscan “bridgehead” north of the Po.
The site was the subject of archaeological excavations from the 1980s, conducted by archaeologists of the Università degli Studi di Milano.
